On Wednesday 4th August the youth of Mount Chapel and Elmwood church came back from an amazing week at Soul Survivor...

On Wednesday 4th August the youth of Mount Chapel and Elmwood church came back from an amazing week at Soul Survivor in Stafford, feeling pretty excited, or pumped, as some would say.

We arrived in Stafford in a minibus, equipped with tents and camping gear and pitched up in the brown village (unfortunately right in the corner of the site, next to a forest and a road). We managed to get our tents up before it started raining and headed off to the main meeting after a soggy barbecue. There were main meetings every morning and evening with worship, teaching and ministry time, in which a lot of great things happened. One of our group brought a friend who became a Christian, people were filled with the spirit, we prayed for each other and gradually got more into it as the week went along! Some of our group said that they were really able to let their guard down and it was great to see people worshipping freely. After the main meetings a choice of venues became available, such as Cafe Uno (which provided some nice tea and cake), Dreggs (for the more hip-hop happening among us), Mr Boogies (where one can go to boogie) and Underground (a music venue with quite a few bands on). There was plenty of mirth and merriment to be had and the group spent quite a bit of time dancing and even ‘blinging’ our youth leader who looked rather fetching in her gangster garb!

Overall people were thoroughly blessed with the trip and on the last couple of nights people from our group were really enjoying the worship, praying for one another and even prophesying! The whole group has come back feeling much closer to God and wanting more. Now we’re trying to keep the fire burning trying not to settle in to normal life again!

A big thanks to all the leaders for organising the trip, getting us there, keeping everything running smoothly, and even buying the whole group a ‘Bible In One Year’ book, which hopefully we’ll able to complete!

The Belarussian children and interpreters flew back to Minsk on Monday afternoon amid emotional scenes both at Mount Chapel and at Terminal 2. It was the fifth and final time they have spent a month with us and what a tremendous privilege it has been for the church.

When the idea was launched 5 years ago the response to the call was immediate and enthusiastic. So many have worked tirelessly to see that the venture succeeded. It has been very fulfilling to see this desire to show kindness and compassion to a specific group of children realised in our own local setting.

We pray that the physical and spiritual benefits to the children will be of eternal consequence and are thankful that the joy they brought to us was immeasurable.

Well done church.

The Belarus children treated a packed Mount Chapel to a very entertaining evening on Tuesday night. There were poems in Belarussian and English, songs and mimes, piano pieces performed by Zhenyia and an interpretation of the fairy tale, “Cinderella”. All the children were involved in the Cinderella play with Valeryia in the title role.

It was an emotional evening as everyone was aware that this was the final concert from these children. Much mutual appreciation was expressed both in words and song. It has been an amazing privilege being involved in this venture and we thank God for his hand of blessing on the whole 5 year period.

The Belarus children have been to “Go Ape” at Rivington this week and, although Sasha was too young and Pasha’s broken wrist stopped them going on the course, the other 10 children completed the whole 3 hour session. Well done to them and to the adult volunteers who also completed the course. Sasha and Pasha were compensated with an ice cream.

On Friday the group visited the hovercraft farm in Oswaldtwistle and they had an enjoyable interesting day on the various activities.

This week they have been to do some trampolining and also to play cricket in Bury

Thanks again to all the volunteers who have helped this week.

The children and the interpreters are now gearing up for the concert on Tuesday night.

See some pictures below.

The children and interpreters from Belarus have been with us now for nearly 2 weeks. This week they visited St Anne’s and had a very enjoyable day on the beach making castles. An attempt was made to reach the sea itself, but after a 25 minute walk the sea appeared to be as far away as ever! There was a stop at Lowther Gardens in Lytham for ice creams and then the group headed back to Mt Chapel.

This week there has been a swimming session and a football session. Praise God for the superb weather.
